What is a capybara and why is it amazing?

Capybaras are the biggest rodents in the world and take the appearance of a giant guinea pig. The semi-aquatic animal is from South America and lives in forests near water.

They are very affectionate animals and love to be brushed as you feed them. They will also cuddle with you, other animals and other capybaras when they've formed a bond.

Capybaras make good pets but they can be difficult to look after as they need so much attention. In the wild, they usually live with up to 40 other Capybaras and love to socialise. They can cost up to £900 - £2,300 to buy as pets which isn't cheap. In the UK, you will need a licence provided by your local council to certify that you have enough land for your Capybara.

Take the Capybara quiz to see if you're an expert in the rodent...
